Most questions from learners aren’t anything dramatic. They’re usually nothing super big or particularly game-changing for their programme. They’re just... everyday questions.

The questions that slow learners down
A learner definitely doesn’t need to be disengaged to get stuck. Sometimes, learners are doing exactly what you want: logging in, starting an activity and trying to move forward – but then they hit a wall.
- They might not fully understand the wording of a task.
- Maybe the evidence they need to supply feels unclear.
- They may be unsure about how much detail is expected for a particular activity.
- Maybe they have a review coming up, and aren’t sure what to prioritise. They want to do well, but they’re not exactly sure what “doing well” looks like.

Bud Assist can help Lucy understand the type of evidence that may be relevant, prompt her to think about real examples from her setting, and guide her towards demonstrating her understanding. What it won’t do is hand her a checklist to copy. |

He has a progress review coming up and knows he has fallen slightly behind on one of his activities, but he is not sure what to prioritise first. “What could I do after this apprenticeship?” Amir, who is coming to the end of his Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship is starting to think beyond completion. It will not make decisions for him, but it can help him start a more informed conversation with his tutor or employer about where he might go next. |
None of these are unusual scenarios. They are exactly the kinds of small, practical questions that come up again and again across apprenticeship and funded skills delivery. They are also the kinds of questions that really slow progress if the learner has nowhere useful to turn in the moment.
What makes Bud Assist for Learners different? Can't learners use ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?
Generic AI tools can be helpful. Everyone’s already aware of them, most are already using them to one degree or another, and some are achieving extremely effective results with them.
But the problem is that generic AI starts with a blank slate. It doesn’t know the learner’s programme, the activity they’re working on, the criteria they need to meet, or what progress they’ve made in Bud.
So the learner has to tell the AI all of that - explain their situation, provide details, supply all of the context, ask a clear question, and then – finally! - judge whether the answer it provides actually makes sense for their situation.
Some learners can do that confidently. They can sum up what they need, give the right info, and ask a good question.
But the ones who need the most help often aren’t in that position. They’re already unsure, and asking them to turn their confusion into a perfect AI prompt isn’t really helpful.
